This Onion Bhatta recipe is the perfect way to add a burst of flavor to any meal. The crunchy texture of the onions combined with the tangy, spicy seasoning makes it a delightful side dish. Soaking the onions in ice water is a great trick to mellow out their sharpness and make them refreshingly crisp. Whether served with parathas or rice, or even used as a topping for sandwiches, this versatile dish adds a delicious zing that everyone will love. Plus, the fresh coriander garnish gives it that extra touch of vibrancy!

Ingredients:

Large onions: 5, peeled and cut into rings

Salt: 1 teaspoon

Kashmiri red chili powder: 2 tablespoons

Black salt: 1 teaspoon

Chaat masala: 1.5 tablespoons

Mint and roasted cumin powder: 2 teaspoons

Coriander powder: 2 teaspoons

Ice cubes: a few

Chilled water: ½ liter

Lemon juice: to taste

Green chili: finely chopped (optional, adjust to taste)

Fresh coriander: finely chopped (for garnish)

Method:

1.Soak the onions:

Place the onion rings in a bowl of chilled water and add ice cubes. Let them soak for about 15 minutes. This helps reduce the sharpness of the onions and makes them crispier.

2.Drain the onions:

After soaking, remove the onion rings from the water and place them in a sieve or colander to drain for a few minutes.

3.Prepare the seasoning:

In a mixing bowl, sprinkle the salt, Kashmiri red chili powder, black salt, chaat masala, mint and roasted cumin powder, and coriander powder over the drained onion rings.

4.Add lemon and mix:

Squeeze lemon juice over the seasoned onions to taste. If you like it spicy, add the finely chopped green chili. Mix everything gently to combine.

5.Garnish and serve:

Transfer the Onion Bhatta to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh coriander. Serve immediately as a side dish or snack.

Tip:

This salad pairs well with parathas, rice dishes, or even as a topping for sandwiches! Adjust the spices according to your taste preference for an extra kick.
